For several years I had seen a couple of products in gardening and decorating magazines. I must say I really like them. The first product is the deck cap. At first this seemed like something only hotels or very expensive homes would be inclined to use. However, the variety of styles and prices make it a reasonable product for the average homeowner. With instructions included, most do-it-yourselfers could accomplish the installation of a deck cap easily so I tried it last year and I have really enjoyed them adding to the look and feel of our outdoor spaces. There are many types of raised planting beds around that can either be bought or built. You can easily use these to landscape with and plant flowers in areas that may need a little help with soil or just the overall look. They are also great to plant herb gardens and vegetable gardens as well as some types of fruits like strawberries. They can be built in just about any configuration you can think of and bought in many sizes and materials including recycled plastics and organic woods. Read the rest of this entry »

If you cook often or simply drink plenty of water each day (as you should), then it is hard to ignore the convenience of having a countertop water filter.  With clean, filtered water at your fingertips, you are more likely to remember to drink or use it, there is no need to open the refrigerator multiple times a day (wasting energy), and there is not the hassle of constantly buying replacement filters for filtering pitchers. Installing our deck this summer in our backyard was an expensive and stressful project, but it had to be done. Fortunately there were a few items that we were able to get some great deals on that didn’t put as much as a strain on the finances while simultaneously increasing the overall value – those items were deck post caps. We were able to find exactly what we were looking for and order accordingly. Ordering much of the deck material online before the installers came really made our deck project economical. Since I grow bonsai indoors,  I can choose from many different trees and  I love it.   Even just thinking about the foliage colors  you have everything  from the washed out greens typical of sun lovers through to the deep, dark  greens of the trees that live deep in the jungles. They have trees with shapes from short and fat to long and narrow. Take them out of the jungle though and these awesome giants can become some of the most delightful miniature trees like this Brazilian Raintree. Read the rest of this entry »

Okay maybe not the world but at least all is right in my backyard and that’s a close second. I love my darling little house but I hate my not so darling little one stall tiny garage. However, I finally found the solution to my tiny problem in the Duramax 10×8 Colossus Metal Shed. Read the rest of this entry »
